When you spend 72 hours in Lisbon you do a lot of walking, making sure to take in all of the sights. We did most of the tourist stuff, but at the end of the day it was the streets of Lisbon that drew me into the culture the most. So much color and texture, mixed with the old and the new.
This area of Lisbon is called Cais do Sodré, and the famous street Rua Nova do Carvalho, is painted pink. This street is located near the old port along the riverside in downtown Lisbon. Prior to 2011 Cais do Sodré was seedy and considered the “Red Light District” of Lisbon, full of drunks, thieves and brothels. The neighborhood is still one of Lisbon’s most happening nightlife areas, but instead of being lackluster like it was in the past Cais do Sodré now hosts Live music venues, burlesque clubs and tapas bars.
