Eataly is the largest Italian marketplace in the world, the store has a variety of restaurants, cafes, food and beverage counters, bakery, butcher, farmers market produce, and a cooking school. The Eataly in New York City is located near Madison Square Park, and opened in 2010. I can be found shopping in Eataly at least once a week.
My favorite counter is the fresh pasta, every day at Eataly, their pastamakers, transform simple ingredients into intricate pasta shapes inspired by the rich traditions of every Italian region using simple high-quality ingredients: water, flour, and eggs. My kids love the agnolotti and I have become a huge fan of the long macaroni. With this long macaroni pasta, I love to pair it with our new favorite sauce, it’s an easy 3 ingredient tomato sauce. All ingredients were purchased at Eataly NYC.
Eataly 3 Ingredient Tomato Sauce
- 28oz can peeled tomatoes
- Large brown onion peeled and cut in half
- 5 tbsp butter
- Combine the tomatoes, their juices, the butter and the onion halves in a saucepan.
- Place over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Cook, uncovered, for about 45 minutes. Stir occasionally, mashing any large pieces of tomato with a spoon.
- Discard the onion before tossing the sauce with 1/2 pound of fresh long macaroni pasta from Eataly.
I like to add local grass feed ground beef into the sauce once it is prepared, but you can easily leave out the meat and it still tastes amazing.
