Growing up my family spent many weeks camping at Campland on the Bay, in Mission Bay San Diego. We would always go with all of the cousins, and we coined ourselves “Campland Cousins”. So I was excited to take my own kids to Mission Bay, with their cousins, when we were in California for the summer.
With its calm and contained water, the swimming areas in Mission Bay Park San Diego attract families with small children, or people who are timid in the ocean. However, the trade-off for gentle water can be the bay’s murkiness compared to the Pacific. Luckily we went on a fairly clean water day, so the kids enjoyed splashing around and going on a walk together around an mini island when the tide was low.
It was really easy to find FREE parking lots, next to most of the swimming beaches in Mission Bay Park. We even snagged a picnic table near public restrooms for our fun day at the Bay. My son also enjoyed his first ride on a tandem bicycle with his uncle, and a kayak ride with his auntie.
We also did our part in picking up trash, to keep the bay clean.
