Ivan Navarro, an artist from Santiago, Chile, works with light, mirrors, and neon to craft socially and politically relevant sculptures and installations. Ivan Navarro currently has three site-specific installations on display at Madison Square Park now to April 12th 2014, open daily 8:30am – midnight.
Ivan Navarro’s This Land Is Your Land presents three water towers on public display referencing the experience of immigration through repeating neon reflections on mirrored walls inside the structures. Visitors are encouraged to walk underneath and look up into each sculpture to view the content within. H though it was magic and kept running from tower to tower to see the different reflected images.
The sculptures merge a staple of the New York skyline (the water tower) with the street-level landscape of the Park. It is a nice outdoor public art activity to take your kids to if you are in the neighborhood.
